Administrative Division 

Jilin Province has one deputy-provincial municipality, seven prefecture-level municipalities, one autonomous prefecture, 60 counties (cities, districts), and the Changbai Mountain Protection & Development Zone Administrative Committee. Changchun is the capital.

Administrative division at and above the county level in Jilin Province

Changchun: Nanguan District, Kuancheng District, Chaoyang District, Erdao District, Lvyuan District, Shuangyang District, Jiutai District, Yushu City, Dehui City, and Nong’an County

Jilin City: Changyi District, Longtan District, Chuanying District, Fengman District, Jiaohe City, Huadian City, Shulan City, Panshi City, and Yongji County

Siping: Tiexi District, Diedong District, Gongzhuling City, Shuangliao City, Lishu County, and Yitong Manchu Autonomous County

Liaoyuan: Longshan District, Xi’an District, Dongfeng County, and Dongliao County

Tonghua: Dongchang District, Erdaojiang District, Meihekou City, Ji’an City, Tonghua County, Huinan County, and Liuhe County

Ethnic Groups and Distribution 

By the end of 2013, the general population of Jilin province is 27.5128 million, among which, the urban population accounted for 54.20%.

Jilin Province is a multi-ethnic province with 56 ethnic groups, which include Han, Korean (an ethnic group in China), Manchu, Mongol, Hui, Xibo, etc. Except Han people, the population of the other 55 ethnic groups account for 8% of the total in Jilin Province. The Korean nationality are mainly distributed in the east part of Jilin Province, such as Jilin, Tonghua and Baishan; the Mongol and Xibo nationality are distributed in the western part, mainly in Baicheng and Songyuan, while Manchu and Hui nationality are in Changchun, Jilin, Tonghua and Siping mostly.

Regional Autonomy of the Ethnic Minorities

According to the Party’s ethnic policies, some ethnic minorities in Jilin Province are implemented in the reform of regional autonomy. One autonomous prefecture and three autonomous counties are established, namely Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, Qian Gorlos Mongol Autonomous County and Yitong Manchu Autonomous County. Besides, there are 33 ethnic townships in Jilin Province. Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture is the largest agglomeration of the Koreans and the unique Korean Autonomous Prefecture in our country,, which is granted a honorable title of “National Unity and Progress Model Autonomous Prefecture ” by the State Council in constant five years.

Folk Habits and Customs  

Every ethnic minority in Jilin province created well-rounded folk habits and customs during their long-term producing activities. Food, dress and etiquette in different ethnic groups have their own distinctive features.

The Koreans

Jilin province is the main settlement of the Koreans. The Korean people inherit a good tradition of hard-working and a good spirit of being strong and brave. In the anti-Japanese war, the war of Liberation and the war to resist US aggression and aid Korea, Korean people sacrificed themselves and made a contribution to the liberation of the Chinese people and the consolidation of the founding of New China. The Koreans like to wear white clothes. They pay more attention to etiquette, like respecting the old and cherishing the young. Also, they do well in singing and dancing. Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture was established in September 3, 1952. The Koreans has a good reputation of "the hometown of song and dance" and "the home of football".

Manchu

Jilin Province is one of the birthplaces of Manchu. Manchu have their own language and words, but the common language is Chinese. Manchu women are fond of cheongsam, because of the elegant style and distinctive national characteristics. So far, cheongsam has become Chinese traditional costume and favored by the public. Those traditional customs, like etiquette, sacrifice, marriage, funeral, living habit and child rearing, still affect many regions. Other things like painting, paper cutting, dancing and singing, opera, fold tales and ancient national sports also have a long history and are popular up to now. Manchu diet has its unique features, which is famous for the Chinese Feast.

Mongolian

    Mongolians have their own language and words. At the same time, they have distinctive ethnic features, like clothing, food, house, construction, marriage, funeral, taboo and etiquette. Mongolian people are good at singing and dancing, and the most popular instrument in the folk is called Mongolian Hur or four strings. When the autonomous counties and ethnic townships celebrate the founding day of Mongolian and traditional festivals, Naadam Fair (entertainment), national sports like horse racing, buzkashi (goat grabbing), wrestling, and the performance of song and dance are held constantly.
