 Communication and Transportation in Jilin Province


Jilin Province’s railways run around Changchun as the center. There are artery railways of Changchun-Dalian, Changchun-Harbin, Changchun-Tumen and Changchun-Baicheng going in all directions, to Harbin to the north, Shenyang, Dalian and Beijing to the south, Songyuan and Baicheng to the west, and Jilin City, Tonghua, Tumen and Hunchun to the east. The railways within Jilin Province crisscross, totaling 28 artery and branch railways. Their total operation mileage is 3635 km, averaging 1.87 km per 100 square kilometers. The Hunchun railway links the Russian railway. 


Within Jilin Province there are eight national highways, 16 provincial highways and 162 county highways, with the total mileage being 50300 km, and 93.5% of them are grade roads. The expressway is 542 km long in Jilin Province. The roads in Jilin Province run around Changchun and go in all directions to places in and out of the province. 48000-km roads are open to traffic. There are 7425-km-long grade-2 highways. Roads connect all villages in Jilin Province. Changchun is about 600 km from Dalian Port and 400 km from Yingkou Port. Changchun links large and medium-sized cities like Jilin City, Harbin, Shenyang, Dalian, Beijing, etc. People can go to and return from Jilin City, Harbin and Shenyang in one day and reach Dalian and Beijing in one day. During the “11th five-year plan” period, Jilin Province will add 1500-km expressways and 2000-km expressways will open to traffic; there will be 12000-km grade-2 and above level highways. All the townships and 90% of the administrative villages will have access to asphalt (cement) roads. The inter-provincial hyperchannel to the ocean and places inside the Great Wall have basically been built. Changchun has been basically linked to all the municipalities (prefectures) by expressways.

Civil Aviation

    With the Changchun Longjia International Airport as the center, Jilin Province is connected with its surrounding countries and regions through civil aviation networks. The Changchun Longjia International Airport and the Yanji Airport can receive large aircrafts like Boeing 757. Both Changchun and Yanji has international airports. Jilin Province has nearly 50 domestic and foreign flights, including international flights to Russia, Japan, ROK, etc., to cities like Seoul, Tokyo, Nagoya, Sendai, Fukuoka, Vladivostok, Irkutsk, Hong Kong, etc. The Baishan Airport has become an important domestic tourism airport.

River Transport

The length of navigable inland waterways is 1609 km in Jilin Province. There are five inland river ports and their designed annual throughput is 1.8 million tons. Da’an Port is a national category-1 inland river port, and its designed throughput is 1 million tons. Jilin Province reaches some Russian ports in Far East of Russia via waterways and the Sea of Japan. In addition, Jilin Province also has major ports like Fuyu Port, Jilin Port, Fengman Port, etc.
